In Varenna you can visit:
  • San Giorgio's Church, hallowed in 1313 and restructured in 1957, is a basilica in Romanic style having three naves. The most precious work it contains is the Cross Deposition in coloured stone;

  • Church of San Giovanni Battista, in Romanic style, probably one of the first churches built along the Lake. It has a single nave with apse and its paintings date back to the XV century;

  • Villa dei Cipressi, in Neoclassic style; visitors may avail themselves of an interesting botanic way created in its secular gardens. The terraces of the Villa degrading towards water represent a natural world source;

  • Villa Monastero, whose name comes from the first usage of the building as a place for spiritual withdrawal of Cistercian sisters of Santa Maria Maddalena. Among the sculptures adorning the villa, we must underline “Tito's mercy“, the last unfinished work by G.B. Comolli (1830). Its gardens, facing the lake, represent an integrant part of the local atmosphere and charm. It is possible to visit the rooms of Villa Monastero, recognised as a museum house;

  • Vezio Castle, 383 metres high, you can see the tower of a medieval castle, where the Longobardic queen Teodolinda lived, which dominates the village of Varenna;

  • Museum of Ornithology and Natural Sciences, in Varenna, Via IV Novembre, shows local and migrant examples of the fauna which populates Italy and specifically the Lake of Como.
